René van Eck (born 18 February 1966) is a former Dutch footballer and was last manager of German 3rd Liga side FC Carl Zeiss Jena.

Career

Van Eck started his professional career at local side Excelsior Rotterdam before moving to FC Den Bosch aged 20.[1] The long-haired defender played 4 seasons at Den Bosch, then moved abroad to join FC Luzern where he would spend 8 seasons and became captain of the team.

He was a sports to be hard and physical defender, off this position came he after his moving in December 1998 from FC Lucerne to 1. FC Nuremberg, he played with the club sixteen games the 1. Bundesliga. After the clim-down Nuremberg's played he one year in the 2. Bundesliga, who has passed 22 games.[2] Afterwards moved van Eck back to Switzerland, who signed a contract with FC Winterthur, after a half year moved to league rival SC Kriens.[3]

Coaching career

His coaching career began for Van Eck as assistant coach from FC Lucerne; in 2003 he was named as the new Head Coach, his greatest success was the climbing in the Swiss Super League, among others with 31 games without defeat. On the basis of difference with the club conduct, leave Lucerne and joined to the Finnish club Inter Turku, with the club holds the league, from June 2007 to May 2008 trained the team from FC Thun and descended with the club from the AXPO Super League to the Challenge League,[4] on 23 May 2008 fired in Thun.[5]

Van Eck since 2007 holds the UEFA Pro Coach Licence.[6] He signed his coaching contract with FC Carl Zeiss Jena on 28 September 2008, between season end, then on 5 February 2009 extended his contract between 30 June 2011.[7] He was fired from his coaching job with FC Carl Zeiss Jena on 24 March 2009.[8][9] On 29 May 2009 it was announced he will come back to FC Carl Zeiss Jena because his not cancelled contract runs between 30 June 2011.[10] Later he was named as the new head coach of FC Carl Zeiss Jena,[11] van Eck turned after 67 Days back to his former club.[12] On 1 June 2010 resigns his contract with German side FC Carl Zeiss Jena and left the club.[13]
